The Correlation Between Vitamin C & Hair Loss

When you think about vitamin C, you immediately think about citrus fruits, or fruits in general, and orange-colored supplement pills. All this is supposed to help boost the immune system and protect you from most diseases. Hair loss, however, is not one of those diseases, being mainly a genetic condition. And yet, what many people don't know is that proper - or improper - usage of vitamin c & hair loss are related.

The relationship between Vitamin C & hair loss is not clearly played up, because other vitamins and nutrients have a more profound impact on scalp care. Vitamins B and E, for example, are considered more important in maintaining healthy hair growth. But vitamin C has its own magic to work on the human body - in particular, the human head!

Vitamin B, for example, comes in different levels, namely: vitamins B-12, B-6, folic acid, and biotin. All these B vitamins must be consumed in regular doses every day, for them to be at their most effective. Therefore even if only one of these B levels are actually directly significant to hair loss, it's important to have a balanced intake of all B vitamins. The one B level vitamin that works wonders on the scalp is biotin. Biotin is necessary for the proper processing of carbohydrates, protein and fats, and is responsible for keeping your skin and hair healthy.

Vitamin E is an all-around wonder drug. Vitamin E is significant in preventing hair loss, because it contributes to the wellness of every part of the skin, including the scalp, by increasing the body's uptake of oxygen, thus improving circulation all over.

Vitamin C, on the other hand, helps to improve blood circulation in the scalp. This particular vitamin takes care of the capillaries, the tiny vessels that carry blood to the hair follicles. Vitamin C is also important in the generation of healthy collagen, which is needed for holding body tissues together. Vitamin C deficiency can cause split ends and brittle hair. That’s certainly a no-no for people currently undergoing hair regrowth treatments! But once the vitamin C intake is increased, these problems may decrease.

So the next time you're taking those medicinal supplements you need to remedy your hair loss problem, don't forget the vitamin C! Vitamin C & hair loss are directly related, and you don't want to take the risk of your hair regrowth being stunted by malnutrition!
